Make no mistake we are fighting a war and today we are losing this war for rhinos in South Africa. Everyday poachers enter parks and reserves across the country heavily armed, mercilessly slaughter rhinos, hack off their horns with axes, and hightail it to the nearest border to deliver the horns into the criminal network that transports them to Asia.
To keep the animals safe many reserves we work with are choosing to remove their rhinos horns. The choice is not made lightly or quickly, as it is a massive undertaking. Dehorning does not stop poaching 100%, but it does dramatically decrease the incentive for poachers.
